We will start with a boat trip with Colin Barnes of Cork Whale Watching aboard the "Holly Jo" from near the village of Union Hall. Set off time will be 10am and we will be back at the pier at 2pm. On this trip we should get opportunities to photograph Seals, an assortment of sea birds, and all being well we should see dolphins and hopefully a whale or two - these latter two can be fickle and cannot be guaranteed but they are very, very regular sightings. There are also possibilities to photograph the landscape from the sea and we often see occasional species such as turtles, large jellyfish and sunfish near the suface.
When back on dry land we'll have lunch - you can bring a packed lunch or go to a local restaurant - lunch is NOT included in the workshop fee.
In the afternoon we will look at a few different places in the area making observational pictures of things on the seashore, on local piers and on beaches. We may also look at some long exposure daytime photography using ND filters depending on weather conditions etc.
We will finish at 6pm but this area has such an abundance of photo opportunities that you may wish to stay on a lot longer yourselves.
Boat session - Digital SLR camera with lenses from wide to as long as you have. I would recommend a 70-200mm as best for Whales and Dolphins and the seals and seabirds but both longer and shorter focal lengths may suffice on the day.
Afternoon session: Digital SLR camera with standard zoom lenses ranging from 17-70mm. Macro lenses may be useful for some of the things we will look at in some of the locations.
